Local softball player Alicia Walker (Rossmoor, left) helped lead her '93 American Athletics travel ball team to the ASA 14&Under National Championship in Illinois this summer.  Walker ’s Athletics scored two runs in the seventh inning to pull out at a 5-4 win over their Orange County rivals, the Corona Angels in early August.

With two out and one on in the bottom of the seventh, Walker hit a ground ball that the Corona shortstop couldn’t handle, and then Walker came around to score the winning run on Katie Medina’s game-winning two-run double.

Walker , in only her third summer of travel ball, was no stranger to the National Championship ball.   Last year, she stayed back and In 2005, her American Athletics (an older team) finished 5th at the Triple Crown World Series in Utah . Last year, she stayed back and joined the 12 and Under Lakewood Ladies, which won state championship in May 2006 and came in 4th at the nationals.  Seven of the Ladies joined the '93 American Athletics this season.

Alicia, who plays centerfield, second base and backup shortstop – and also bats leadoff began attending Los Alamitos High School this past week and – big surprise -- will try out for the softball team.
