In 1974 Bixby Land Company begins plans to build Los Alamitos Business Park across the street from the new Los Alamitos High School. Borrowing to build this park was more expensive, since they intended to develop small industrial spaces which, typically, don't attract tenants until they are completed. Nevertheless, the park, as well as the Vons Center, proved to be a success.

| In 1974 the never-built Wilson School site in Rossmoor was declared surplus by the Los Al school district. For many years this site had served as an unofficial community park. Residents held fundraisers to landscape the park, plant grass, shrubs, and trees. The school district agreed to assume basic maintenance. This community park was a very successful cooperative effort. Once the land was offered for sale, the voters approved an assessment to acquire the site and develop it further. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| AUG 1977 - News-Enterprise - 38 Houses will be built on Geller Site. Los Alamitos Planning commission approved a tentative tract map for 38 single family residences adjacent to Los Al HS. The houses are to be built on 7½ acres formerly occupied by the Geller Readi-Mix Concrete Plant. The city's standards for parks and open space were raised from 2½ acres per 1000 population to 4 acres. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| AUG 31, 1978 - N-E, p. 1 -- School Unification Proposal to be aired before Orange County on School District Organization. The proposal would provide kindergarten through 12th grade education and breaking away from Anaheim Unified, one of the largest in the state. The new district would have an average daily attendance of 5,500. A unification plan was put before the board in 1968-69 and approved for a vote. Because of staunch opposition from the Anaheim HS District, the vote failed -- 45% yes -55% no. In 1971-72 a plan was presented with the Seal Beach School District. The country committee approved, but the State Board of Education disapproved it. In 1975-76 the district again presented a plan -- but this one expired at the county level. A firm hired by the Los Al elementary district conducted a survey with the question: "Do you feel the Los Alamitos School District should, in cooperation withy interested members of the community, take the intiative in promoting formation of a unified school district?" Of those who responded, 64% favored the proposal.
