Nine Los Al athletes-- from soccer, football and golf -- signed collegiate letters of intent at a ceremony at Los Al HS Wednesday morning, attended by parents, administrators and student leaders. The largest contingent came from girls soccer which had four athletes affixing their autographs yesterday -- Melanie Green (Westmont), Jordan Santos (San Jose State), Katie Suits (UC Berkeley), and Annie Wethe (UC San Diego). Combined with players from previous years, Los Al will have nineteen alumni playing collegiate womens soccer next season. Football and boys soccer each had two athletes committing. On the soccer side, co-captains Wes Feigner signed to play at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Kevin Venegas will play next year at Cal State Fullerton. A few hours after the signing, the pair helped lead Los Al to a 4-0 win over Newport Harbor and clinch a share of the Sunset League boys soccer championship for the third year in a row -- the first time that had been accomplished in school history. On the football side, Darren Koontz will be playing for Boise State next season and Kameron Jones committed to Penn. Koontz will be the seventh Griffin to commit to the WAC power in the last eight years. He will be joining former Griffins Orlando Scandrick and Jeremy Childs -- although there is talk that one or both may declare to the upcoming NFL draft. Also signing to play at Boise State is women's golfer Robyn Kim. In November seven other athletes from softball and baseball also signed letters of intent. |
