SPIRIT: Griffin Song team wins national title in Florida showcase

The Los Al Song team added another national title to its already bulging portfolio after capturing first place in the Jazz division and taking a third place in Pom at the UDA National Championships held Feb. 1-3 in Orlando Florida.

Over 70 schools competed in the competition, sponsored by UDA (Unversal Dance Association) and held at the Wide World of Sports complex at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. National titles were offered in pom, jazz and hip hop.

Los Al's 10 member squad qualified for the national competition at a UDA camp last July, competing in the small Varsity (less than 14 in a group.) Based on their early round performances, Los Al earned the right to skip the semi-finals and advance straight ton the championship round.

The group was accompanied by 12 parents. three grandparents, an aunt, a brother and a sister and Los Al girls athletic director Debbie Fleming, who no doubt was lured by the chance to get away form the local rain and sneak in a round of golf in Florida (Debbie is the club champiuon at the Newport County Club.)

Members of the team are Mallory Archer, Kelly Blakeman, Brittany Beckham, Melissa Burney, Rachel Cushman, Valerie Enciso, Ashley Frize, Kaitlin Flagg, Kristen Fukuto, Adrienne Javier, Jen Javier, and Natalie Kadletz.
