We
know, we know. This issues have
been getting a little long.
Hey, it's our fault that so many things
happen around here?!? In any
case, because we know long email newsletters
clog up some email servers, we are
really trying to make these issues
shorter. For more in-depth details
about the CIF playoffs than a human
being should be allowed to print -
in fact, for the most info on Los
Al High Sports period- go to www.GoLosAl.com.
This is a single easy-to-remember
gateway for all things Griffin - news,
rosters, schedules, booster club calendars,
etc. If a booster club
doesn't have a webpage we'll provide
a basic one, and if they already have
their own, we'll link to it. We're
also working on doing the same for
youth sports and community news as
well.

LOS
AL HIGH SPORTS: Four
Griffin teams win league; Boys BB begins CIF
play against Inglewood
Four of six Los Al High
winter sports teams came away with Sunset
League championships under their belts,
and five of the six teams qualified for
the post-season CIF playoffs which are now
underway.
BOYS
BASKETBALL:
Boys basketball put a scare into
its fans by losing three straight games,
before downing Esperanza in the league finale
to claim its fifth straight Sunset League
title.
The Griffins who went
into the final two games of the league season
with an 7-0 record, narrowly avoided being
upset by Marina, then lost to Edison, Canyon
(in a non-league match at the Nike Extravaganza
at Mater Dei) and then to Newport Harbor.
Fortunately, the Griffins came together
to down Esperanza by twenty in the final
league game to secure their fifth straight
Sunset League title and the school's tenth
in 11 seasons.
During
halftime of the loss to Edison, Griffin
senior Katie Suits (left)
was named Queen
of Courts. Suits was recently named
the Sunset League Girls Soccer Player of
the Year.
The Boys Basketball team
opens its playoff bid against Inglewood
on Friday night.
The
LA Times ran a nice article on Griffin center
Corbin
Moore and his grandmother, a Holocaust
survivor.
GIRLS

Los Al downs Millikan 17-6 in first round;
face Foothill Friday night
The Griffins downed
Millikan 17-6 in their first round match

BOYS SOCCER: Sunset champ Griffins
open playoffs with 1-0 win over Bell Gardens
Los Al
Boys soccer team ,
co-champions of the Sunset
League, won their first round
CIF Division I playoff game,
downing Bell Gardens 1-0
before a large crowd at
Laurel High School Friday
afternoon.
Senior
Tim Seo scored the game's
only goal early in the first
half, Although the Griffins
threatened at times in the
second half, even hitting the
post a few times, they were
content to settle into a
defensive mode for the rest
of the match against Bell
Gardens, the No. 2 team in
the Almont League.
The win,
which gives Los Al a 21-4-3
overall record, was the
first game for the Griffins
after they downed
Newport Harbor in their
finale to clinch a share
of the boys title.
Senior Tim Seo scored two
goals in that match, giving
him six goal in the final
three games.
CIF
opponent Bell Gardens
finished with a 12-5-4
record. Los Al
will now play next Tuesday
against the winner of the
Chino Hills-Harvard-Westlake
game. Chino won the Sierra
League and H-W was No. 3 in
the Mission League.

| LAHS GIRLS SOCCER:
Griffins claim share of league title; open CIF
Saturday vs. Lakewood
Los
Al will come into their first round CIF playoff
game against Lakewood on Saturday as co-champions
of the Sunset League.
A tough defense and
a goal by freshman Shannelle Simien (left) in
the second half gave Los Al a 1-0
season finale win over Esperanza and a share
of the 2008 Sunset League titles. The
win, played before an appreciative Senior Day
crowd, gave Los Al an 8-2 league mark and its
fourth league crown in the past five years.
(Ironically, the one team which didn't win a
league crown in that time -- the 2006 team --
had eight wins, equal to the most wins of the
'05 and '08 champs, and more than the '04 and
'07 teams).
This year's squad earned
a #4 seed in the playoffs and will play on
Saturday with a home match against Lakewood
at 3pm at Laurel School. |

National Dance Championships at
the Wide World of Sports complex
at Disney World in Orlando
Florida, won the national title
in Pom and finished third in
Jazz.
Their

Nine

The
largest contingent came from
girls soccer which had four
athletes affixing their
autographs yesterday --
Melanie Green (Westmont),
Jordan Santos (San Jose
State), Katie Suits (UC
Berkeley), and Annie Wethe (UC
San Diego). Combined with

We
are winnowing down our list

got a bevy of names, but to
make sure we haven't
overlooked any qualified

someone you think should be

outstanding achievement
in high school
- 4) achievement on a
national or
international level

As
you might expect we have
assembled a list of a gaggle
of distinguished Griffins so
far. But we want to
make sure we don't overlook
anybody. And this Hall
of Fame is not limited to
just sports. If you
know of a Griffin alum who
has distinguished his or
herself in sports, performing
arts, business, science, art,
etc., let
us know.
And
fort those who missed it last
